Arcbutt® is a method of joining rail using the Arc Welding process. The process is ideal in situations where traditional methods such as flashbutt or aluminothermic welding may be unsuitable – underground, hazardous environments, restricted spaces, rail encased in concrete etc. It produces an extremely strong weld with reduced Heat Affected Zones (HAZ) and the top of the weld can be hardfaced to match rail head hardness.
